The Caribbean Resort, known for its blue ocean waters and white-sand beaches, is going green.

The Myrtle Beach resort recently became the first on the Grand Strand to provide its guests with hybrid cars free use of an on-site charging station during their stay. The project has numerous benefits, but the primary reason is for the convenience of guests who drive hybrid vehicle.

“(The electric charging stations are) an extra amenity for our guests and homeowners, and they encourage the use of renewable energy sources,” said Matthew Harvey, chief engineer for the Caribbean, adding that the move may help “entice a new set of customers looking for places that have electrical charging stations.”

Featuring two charging stations that occupy three parking spots in the Caribbean Resort parking garage, guests can plug in and recharge their cars while relaxing by the pool, chilling in their room or grabbing a bite to eat at Sea Captain's House or Starbuck's. Even non-guests who patronize those two businesses are eligible for a free charge.

Although there are other recharging stations on the Grand Strand, this is the first of its kind to be operated by a resort itself. The Caribbean also offers state-of-the-art stations, including a Tesla (240 volts at 80 amps) and a universal EV Plus (240 volts at 60 amps), which are the fastest and highest charging stations currently available. For vehicles with a dual charging system, these stations provide enough juice to drive about 58 miles per each hour of charge.

By offering the most modern charging equipment available, the Caribbean helps ensure that you and your party will always be ready to roll when it's a short trip to nearby Broadway at the Beach and Restaurant Row, or for a longer drive to Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet or a round of golf in Little River, the Caribbean will have your car ready to roll.

Of course, you don't have to be a hybrid car owner to take full advantage of the new charging stations. There are several car rental outlets in Myrtle Beach that offer hybrids, or pick up one in your home town and save money on your trip. You will bypass exits and gas stations during your entire trip, but especially in Myrtle Beach.

In addition to the charging stations that are available to guests only at the Caribbean, there are several public use stations scattered throughout the Grand Strand. Be sure to check out Plug Share for a complete list and map of where charging stations are located. The Caribbean has the only Tesla charging station in Myrtle Beach proper.

The new recharging stations are just another reason to select the Caribbean Resort as your Myrtle Beach vacation destinations. Offering clean, comfortable accommodations and an impressive list of amenities, such as a water park, indoor and outdoor pools and excellent dining options, the Caribbean goes the extra mile to make sure your vacation stay is a wonderful experience.
