Race Over to Myrtle Beach for Some Top Thanksgiving Running Events

In addition to all of the sports-themed activities that take place in Myrtle Beach, such as world-famous golf courses, the Myrtle Beach Invitational college basketball tournament and a minor league baseball team, visitors can also take part themselves in an athletic event.

On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, running enthusiasts and their families can work up their Thanksgiving appetites by taking part in one of various family-friendly Turkey Trot events that are taking place in Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas.

One is the Myrtle Beach Turkey Trot 5K, and runners, walkers and strollers are allowed at the race. In addition to the 5K, which is 3.1 miles, the event also includes a Gobbler Kids’ 50-yard dash event.

Myrtle Beach Turkey Trot: Scenic Course and … Race Swag

Runners, walkers and strollers are allowed at the Myrtle Beach Turkey Trot 5K, and the race course is through the scenic Market Common region of Myrtle Beach, which was home to the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Runners, walkers, and people with strollers are all welcome to the race, which also includes a virtual option in which people run the distance on their own time off-course.

And it wouldn’t be a race event without the swag. Participants receive a 5K participant shirt, a 5K finisher medal, and a 5K bib. Kids’ dash participants receive a kids’ dash race bib and finisher gift.

Other Races Will Also Whet Your Thanksgiving Appetite

Additional race options exist for those wanting to burn calories in anticipation of their Thanksgiving meal.

And one of those races features an ocean view. At The Annual Surfside Rotary Turkey Trot 5K/10K, racers run and walk along Ocean Blvd. Then they continue through the neighborhood and streets of Surfside Beach. Like other races, this one also offers a virtual option, and runners, walkers and strollers are welcome.

That race also offers family fun with a “Gobbler Kids” 50-yard dash. For grownups, it offers gun timing for overall awards and chip timing for age group awards.

Another option is the Florence Turkey Trot 5K, which winds through the beautiful neighborhoods of Florence, S.C. Participants for this race are encouraged to dress in costume to be eligible for prizes.

A third option is the North Myrtle Beach Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk, which takes place in beautiful Barefoot Landing. It starts at Crooked Hammock Brewery in Barefoot Landing, but a virtual option is also available. Participants who dress in costume are eligible for additional prizes.

Swag for the Surfside Rotary Turkey Trot, Florence Turkey Trot 5K and North Myrtle Beach Turkey Trot 5K run/walk includes participant shirts and finisher medals for the 5K and 10K, and kids’ dash participants receive race bibs and finisher gifts.

Your home base for race prep and recovery: Caribbean Resort

After the race, participants have plenty of opportunity to wind down with food, drinks, shopping and other fun activities. Racers can refuel at Sea Captains House Restaurant for delicious seafood or relax at Oceanfront Tiki Bar. Shopping opportunities are many with sites such as Broadway at the Beach, which includes many nationally recognized shopping names. And one of the best places to relax after a run? The beach, of course. Myrtle Beach is known for its white sand beaches that stretch on for more than 60 miles along the Grand Strand.

If they still have any energy left after all that, racers can go for a round of golf at Myrtle Beach, which has been described as the premier golf destination in the country.
