The first signs of the holiday season are starting to appear on the Grand Strand, beginning with the many popular Christmas shows presented in the area. For lots of folks who visit Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the holidays, it's not officially the magical time of the season until they see one of their favorite shows on the stages of our local theaters and concert venues, and the 2017 lineup is another crowd-pleaser.

Guests at the Caribbean Resort & Villas on the Myrtle Beach oceanfront are only a short distance from some of the best holiday entertainment in town, and that includes theater-goers of all tastes. From traditional programs to dinner theaters, and from tribute performances to choral concerts, the Grand Strand transforms into one big stage for the holidays to spread the Christmas spirit into the ocean breeze. For those visiting for the holidays and staying with us at the Caribbean Resort & Villas, here's a glance at the many holiday-themed entertainment options available to you and your crew this Christmas season:

* Concerts: There are several choral groups and caroling troops performing in the Myrtle Beach area during the holidays, but none generate more goodwill and good food than the Sunday Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues in Barefoot Landing. Held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday, the HOB’s crowd-pleasing holiday event features Christmas-themed gospel performances that are great for the soul and even better for a hungry stomach. The spread includes some of the HOB's Southern classics and traditional holiday fare, like shrimp and grits, a smoked-meat carving station and lots of comfort-food favorites. Reservations are recommended.

* Dinner Theater: You could sail the seven seas and not find a Christmas show as unique as the one featured at Pirates Voyage. Located about 5.5 miles north of the Caribbean Resort & Villas, this Dolly Parton production uses its pirate cast and crew for an entertaining retelling of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. Watch as Captain Scrooge recounts his scurrilous career and tries to put his pirating ways behind him. But really, who needs a plot when you have mermaids, acrobats, live animals, cannons, singing, dancing and high-diving? Oh yeah, it’s all topped off with a tasty meal that's as family-friendly as the show.

* Traditional Holiday Shows: If you miss the good old days of a country Christmas, you can find the next best thing at two of the top theaters on the Strand. The Alabama Theatre's production of “The South's Grandest Christmas Show” and The Carolina Opry's presentation of “The Christmas Show of the South” have been infusing viewers with the holiday spirit for decades. The Carolina Opry's 32nd annual showcase and the Alabama Theatre's similarly styled alternative feature outstanding singers, dancers, comedians and other talented performers that create Christmas magic on stage.

* Tributes: Some timeless holiday images are etched into the collective American memory, and Legends in Concert attempts to recreate those scenes before a live audience with a Hollywood-style Christmas showcase. Located less than 1.5 miles down 29th Avenue North from the Caribbean Resort & Villas, this Broadway at the Beach theater features realistic tribute artists performing holiday hits by the likes of  the late, great Elvis Presley and Nat King Cole, as well as living legends like Rod Stewart and Dolly Parton. The star-studded show closes with an all-cast encore that will send chills down your spine.

Of course, the holiday shows are just one reason to visit Myrtle Beach and the Caribbean Resort & Villas during the holidays. With low off-season rates, plentiful holiday shopping options nearby and lots of amenities, like our indoor heated pools, lazy river and hot tubs, the Caribbean provides the perfect place to celebrate the holiday season.
