Located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, Skyrider Park, just south of the Caribbean Resort.

For Grand Strand vacationers looking to take their beach getaways to new heights, a brand-new attraction in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach offers an avenue to high-flying adventure, along with some great bird’s-eye views of Myrtle Beach.

Opened in early April at the corner of 8th Avenue North and Chester Street — at Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place just a few blocks inland from the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk — Sky Rider Park features a tethered helium balloon whose gondola can take 15 to 20 riders (plus the balloon’s sky captain) high into the air for lofty views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Boardwalk, the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel and downtown Myrtle Beach.

The balloon itself measures over 60 feet in diameter, and it can take its passengers 300 to 400 feet off the ground. Those eager to take to the skies will want to watch the weather, though, as for safety reasons the ride will only operate when wind speeds are below 28 miles per hour. Prospective riders may also want to act fast — while it may become a more permanent fixture in the future, the ride is initially operating for 180 days after being approved for a pair of consecutive, 90-day special event permits.

No reservations are necessary to enjoy the helium balloon ride at Sky Rider Park. Admission is $20 for passengers ages 10 and older, and $15 for children ages 4 to 9. Children ages 4 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult to ride.

Tentative future plans call for adding food trucks, seating and vendor tents at the amusement space that the balloon ride will occupy, and Sky Rider Park’s proximity to the nearby Myrtle Beach Zipline Adventures will offer visitors the opportunity to hop from one exciting attraction to the next via a short stroll across Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place.

After a fun adrenaline filled day, head back to Caribbean Resort for some rest and relaxation.
