How to plan the perfect 4th of July beach getaway

It’s definitely not too early to plan for your Independence Day getaway to Myrtle Beach.

July 4 is a busy time for travelers, especially when the date falls on a weekend. There’s plenty of places to stay in Myrtle Beach, so start planning today. Make reservations, and we’ll tell you about fun things to do while you’re here.

These activities are perfect for a holiday getaway. You might know of some already, but some might be new to you. As we get out and about again, we can get back to the things we love doing – namely, hitting the beach for summer fun.

Why plan ahead?

Although just hopping in the car and heading to Myrtle Beach is a fun thing to do, when you have a holiday involved, it’s better to put a plan in place. It’ll give you peace of mind knowing you have a room, and it’ll help you pack more efficiently. For instance, if walking tours are part of your plan, you’d want to bring a hat and good walking shoes. Going jet skiing? Maybe an extra set of dry clothes that day wouldn’t be a bad idea!

Beach activities in Myrtle Beach

The beach in Myrtle Beach is the attraction. Here’s how to have fun on it.

Games

You could go traditional with a beach volleyball match, or go a little more contemporary with a cornhole or spikeball set. Do a web search for “beach games” and you’ll get a ton of ideas of games you’ve never heard of! Order them now so you’ll have them for your trip.

Boogie boarding

You’ve probably seen them around – the short, often colorful boards people ride the waves on laying down. These surfers ride wave crests toward the shore. Boogie boards are available all along the Grand Strand in beach and surf shops.

Take a surf lesson

Myrtle Beach has a few places that’ll teach you to surf! Go to Kokopelli Surf Lessons for expert instructors. Jack’s Surf Lessons will get you riding waves in no time and hooked on this thrilling past-time. Surf City Surf Shop is a favorite stop for surfing supplies.

Fishing

Go big with a fishing charter during your Myrtle Beach trip. Myrtle Beach Guide Service is known for excellent instructors and a penchant for plenty of red drum. 2nd Ave Fishing Pier is a pleasant place to fish with plenty of friendly people casting lines, too.

Parasailing

How about riding above the waves? Parasailors ride behind a vehicle while attached to a canopy wing. Downwind Sails offers a friendly crew and awesome pictures of your adventure. Make longlasting memories sailing above the waves with Atlantic Water Sports.

Activities off the beach

Myrtle Beach has plenty more to offer than fun in the sand. Here’s what else to do.

New penguin exhibit at Ripley’s

It’s the biggest expansion ever at Ripley’s Aquarium. The incredible floor-to-ceiling viewing glass is more than 50 feet long, and you can go in a 360-degree crawl tunnel. The exhibit is part of a conservancy effort to replenish numbers of the African penguin, an endangered species.

Hiking at Myrtle Beach State Park

Choose from two easy trails (Sculptured Oak and Yaupon), both about half a mile. Enjoy the forest of hollies, oaks, poplars, magnolias, and wax myrtles, after which Myrtle Beach is named. There’s beach access from both trails, by boardwalks.

Experience Brookgreen Gardens

This sculpture garden and wildlife preserve is south of Murrells Inlet. It’s a quiet place to explore, or just sit and take in the beauty of nature. There are 400 statues in the garden and fountains and is a perfect escape for nature lovers.

Myrtle Waves Water Park

Visit the largest water park in Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Waves Water Park is an excellent family activity, with more than 20 water slides, tube slides, and a very cool feature called the FlowRider, which gives bodyboarders the experience of riding the waves!
