It’s been exactly 50 years since the legendary Woodstock Music & Art Fair drew over 400,000 attendees to a dairy farm outside Bethel, New York, in 1969 — and to celebrate the event’s groovy half-century anniversary, the family-friendly Hippie Fest music and arts festival is hitting select spots throughout the nation. Further, in a bit of welcome news for the Grand Strand’s hippies and other free-spirited visitors — as well as more casual fans of the hippie lifestyle who’ll be in the area for the early fall weekend — the tour will be making an October stop right here in Myrtle Beach.
Set for noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, at the Myrtle Beach Speedway, Hippie Fest will feature live music on multiple stages, bohemian shopping, a vintage car show and more. So don your best hippie outfit and head to the speedway to celebrate peace, love and happiness with some of these fun activities:
Family-friendly activities: The fun on tap will include live bands on multiple stages (acts TBD), a DIY tie-dye station, a giant bubble garden, interactive drum circles, inspiring sideshow performers and other kids’ activities.
Vendors: Hundreds of artists and other vendors will set up on-site booths offering an endless array of bohemian goodies. Come and shop for your favorite groovy, one-of-a-kind creation.
Car show: This event will feature a collection of vintage Volkswagen buses, along with other groovy retro rides. Participation is free for the exhibiting vehicle owners, and trophies will be presented to winners in a number of fun categories.
Food and drink: Vendors will also sell a range of delicious lot food, and drinks (including beer for those of drinking age) will be available for purchase on the property.
Admission to Hippie Fest is just $10 for general admission, and kids 10 and younger are admitted for free. Pets dressed as hippies are even welcome, though guests are asked to be sure and clean up after their four-legged friends. For more information and to get your tickets, visit hippiefest.org.
