Paula Deen's Family Kitchen is one of three new restaurants to debut at Broadway in June, joining Carolina Ale House and Dave & Buster's in the diverse dining lineup at Myrtle Beach's most popular hot spot. June also marked the start of the Summer Nights at Broadway festival, featuring free nightly music, entertainment and fireworks through Labor Day weekend. Here's a glance at these new offerings at Broadway this summer:
* Paula Deen's Family Kitchen: Broadway at the Beach gets its first taste of “family style” dining, which allows guests to pass platters of mouthwatering comfort food around the table just like they do at home. Serving three meals a day, this cozy, country-casual concept loads up your table with some of Deen's favorite recipes until everyone is satisfied.
After serving a traditional Southern-style breakfast, complete with sausage, bacon, eggs, biscuits, gravy, grits and more, Paula Deen's Family Kitchen shifts into “supper” mode for lunch and dinner. Generous portions of Deen's famous fried chicken, smothered steak and gravy, and all the fixings ensure that no one leaves hungry. And just to make sure, there's dessert.
Adjoining the restaurant is a company store that offers a wide selection of kitchen items, home decor, packaged foods, etc. giving patrons a chance to take home a flavor of Paula Deen's award-winning cuisine. Pick up a cookbook, cookware, pre-packaged meals and other goodies after you feast. Don't forget to pack up your leftovers for a late-night snack back at The Caribbean Resort & Villas.
* Dave & Buster's: There's a new game in town as the national chain of arcades/sports bars finds its first home on the Grand Strand at Broadway at the Beach. Located on the site previously occupied by the Hard Rock Cafe pyramid, Dave & Buster's adds fun and games to the Celebrity Square lineup with a motto everyone can get behind – “Eat, Drink, Play & Watch Sports!”
Featuring a spacious sports bar, dining room and covered patio deck, Dave & Buster's offers a surprisingly diverse menu compared to most entertainment/dining outlets. In addition to the traditional sports-pub grub of burgers, chicken wings, pizza and appetizers, D&B's also offers more sophisticated dishes, including soups, salads, wraps and lighter fare.
But the big draw is the arcade, a massive play area with the latest high-tech games and classic, old-school amusements. Play the newest video games on the market, such as Dream Raiders, Raptor Captor and Transformers. Check out retro favorites, like Galaga Assault, Mario Brothers and the world's largest Pac-Man machine. Or try your hand at the old carnival games, including billiards, Skee Ball and Pop-A-Shot. Pick up an Eat & Play combo card for great food, fun and games.
* Carolina Ale House: Gone is the old Planet Hollywood, replaced by a new regional chain that puts the focus on hand-crafted brew and food. Featuring more than 60 different beers on tap, a vast collection of beers from around the world and a chalkboard listing their daily microbrew selections, Carolina Ale House also takes its grub every bit at seriously as its suds.
The spacious facility offers patio seating, a dining area and a sports bar with big-screen TVs. The menu is as diverse as the beer options, with creative salads, steaks and seafood dishes to go along with the more traditional sports-pub fare, like the chicken fingers (a house specialty known as Zingers), burgers, ribs, appetizers, pizzas, tacos and more.
